Why You Should Join 4-H

Members learn and improve life skills through projects like leadership and community service, to financial responsibility when taking care of livestock. The projects and clubs help members’ develop confidence, compassion, communication skills, teamwork, and independence. Adult mentors help guild members to become the best they can be.

4-H is a safe place for young members to step out of their comfort zone in order to build themselves as individuals. They can practice giving presentations in front of their club during meetings. Members give positive feedback and help their peers improve themselves. As 4-Hers, we are encouraged to help out one another because we understand the importance of being benevolent.

Over the years, members work on their communication and teamwork skills. Through one-on-one and public speaking, 4-Hers learn the importance of speech. Whether speaking to adults, peers, or judges, members learn how to appropriately talk to others depending on if the situation is casual or professional. Members also learn how to communicate their ideas and discuss issues with one another so they can come up with a solution. During meetings, 4-Hers will have to decide on what course of action they need to take in order to solve problems and make decisions.

After every 4-H fiscal year, members turn in a Record Book that they complete themselves. These record books contain an archive of accomplishments they have achieved and events they have attended. Over the years, as members continue to complete their record books, they can apply for scholarships once they have graduated high school. 4-Hers who move on in life, are ready for the road knowing that they have had 4-H get them ready for the big world.
